Bringing Groups Together to Revamp an Industry

One of the best-known slogans from the “Mad Men” era of advertising was for Certs, which declared itself to be “Two, two, two mints in one” — a breath mint as well as a candy mint, that is. Decades later, the successors to Don Draper and Roger Sterling are trying to combine two prominent industry conferences into one big event.

The two conferences had been for agency executives who worked on the management or media sides of the business. They were both put on each year by the Four A’s, the trade organization formerly known as the American Association of Advertising Agencies. The management conference, more recently called the leadership conference, dated to 1917, and the media conference to the mid-1990s.
