Android Comes Up Big In Apps Study

Although iPhone still holds the top spot among platforms for which publishers are developing mobile apps, iPad, Android and the newly-launched Windows Phone 7 top the list of platforms that publishers will be supporting in 2011, according to The State of the Apps Industry report, a collaboration of Millennial Media, DIGIDAY and Stifel Nicolaus.

According to the report, 29% of publishers and developers surveyed will be developing apps for the Android, putting the operating system in a position to surpass the long-dominant iPhone for smartphone supremacy. Although that could change if the iPhone becomes available to Verizon subscribers in 2011, as press reports have suggested.
