27 LinkedIn Social Media Marketing Tactics

ClickZ

In 2010 when LinkedIn finally launched company pages, I wrote a breakdown of all the things you could do with your page in the column, “Set Up Your New LinkedIn Company Page.” A lot has changed since then and the list of free and paid marketing and media opportunities on LinkedIn has grown significantly.

So with the help of Sarah Mitus (one of our agency’s social media specialists who helped with the research and images for this column) we are going to share an update and breakdown of all the things we think you can do to promote your business or brand on LinkedIn. Of course if we left something out please comment and let us know! We have broken down the tactics and features into free and paid categories that businesses (or their advocates) can use to promote their brands, products, and services.

YouTube Ad Platform Adds Features, Services

MediaPost

YouTube is launching a series of tools and services, among them Traffic Estimator, Conversion Tracking, and several other features and services to support advertising on Google’s video site.

In Traffic Estimator, a budget, a bid and an audience target allows the tool to estimate views and impressions for the video, according to Lane Shakleton, product manager at YouTube. Marketers will find the feature in the campaign management creation tool. The Conversion Tracking for Video tool will allow marketers to compare their budgets to video views, and identify the number of subscribers generated from a TrueView video advertisement.

How Are Marketers Using Social Media In 2012? [INFOGRAPHIC]

AllTwitter

Are you using social media to promote your business in 2012?

You’re not alone. More than eight out of ten marketers are now using channels such as Facebook, Twitter and LinkedIn to raise brand awareness, build communities and drive sales, and a full one third of these professionals invest 11 or more hours each and every week into their social marketing efforts. All of which raises a couple of important questions: where are they targeting these resources, and what are the benefits?

Facebook CPMs Climb Despite Falling Clicks

MediaPost

Click-through rates on Facebook are going down even as the cost of advertising on the dominant social network continues to rise. Average CPM rates for non-premium display ads on Facebook in the first quarter are up 41% from a year ago, and up 15% from the fourth quarter of 2011. At the same time, click-through rates dropped 8% from the prior quarter.

The new findings from social media marketing firm TBG Digital are based on an analysis of 268 billion Marketplace ad impressions served on Facebook across five major markets: the U.S., U.K., France, Germany and Canada. (The firm did not disclose the actual value of ad rates.) Cost-per-click rates on Facebook rose even faster than CPMs, increasing 25% over the last quarter.

Fortune 500 social media statistics: infographic

eConsultancy

However, for the consumer brands and FMCGs on the list having a strong social media presence is an important marketing consideration. Go-Gulf.com has put together the infographic below to highlight the key social media statistics for the big corporate players. It found that 58% have an active corporate Facebook account compared to 62% with an active Twitter account.

Unsurprisingly Coca-Cola has the most number of Facebook ‘likes’ with more than 40m, while Starbucks comes in second with just under 29m. Interestingly, the number of blogs per industry have almost all decreased – perhaps suggesting a focusing of efforts – with only minor growth in terms of new Fortune 500 companies embracing Facebook and Twitter.

Support Your Supply Chain with B2B Social Media

Social Media B2B

Social media can help B2B companies connect with customers, partners and vendors in many functions, and one function that is barely talked about is the supply chain. A recent survey with supply chain decision makers was published, and the results were not surprising. If you are a supply chain vendor, this can give you a picture of what your customers may be looking for in social media connections. If you have never considered connecting with your partners, this survey shows you how some companies are benefiting from these relationships.

How Does a Video Attract a Million Views?

Neal Campbell, Chief Marketing Officer at CDW, accepted a runner-up award for best viral video at the 3rd annual BtoB Social Media Awards program. Campbell said the “North Pole” campaign added humor to CDW’s “People Who Get IT” messaging. CDW hoped the two-week campaign would lead to150,000 video views, but that was very conservative. IDG Strategic Marketing Services Director Howard Sholkin interviewed Campbell during the BtoB awards ceremony in March 2012…

WordPress completely dominates top 100 blogs

Pingdom

WordPress is no doubt a very popular web publishing platform for blogs and other types of websites. But just how popular is it? We just completed a study and found that WordPress is in use by 48% of the top 100 blogs in the world. This is an increase from the 32% we recorded three years ago.

Other developments since then include that custom blog publishing platforms are more common now, TypePad has all but disappeared from the top 100, Tumblr has made an entrance, and some companies really don’t want to spill the beans about what solutions they use.

Most Smartphone Owners Feel Naked Without Their Devices

Marketing Charts

The vast majority of smartphone appear tethered to their devices, finds a pair of separate studies released in April 2012. According to Arbitron and Edison Research survey results Please or in order to access this content., a whopping 91% of smartphone owners say their device is within arm’s length either always (60%) or most of the time (31%). And findings from a Time magazine study indicate that 65% of digital natives take their devices from room to room with them, with these consumers saying that smartphones are the first thing they reach for when they wake up and when they leave home. Smartphones are also the first device digital natives will think of having close at hand when home, and the first they will turn to if they wake up in the middle of the night.
