NEW YORK: Google has seen “phenomenal” growth in the number of online search entries made from mobile phones and tablets, but does not yet know if these devices will be “incremental” or “cannibalistic”. Speaking on a quarterly conference call with analysts, NikeshArora, Google’s chief business officer, reported that consumer behaviour was evolving rapidly in this space.  ”Whether it’s tablets, whether it’s mobile phones, whether it’s geographical or whatever, we are seeing phenomenal amounts of mobile queries across the board,” he said. The company also reported that over 1m brands now utilise its AdMob mobile advertising network, which covers 350m devices and 300,000 apps, which are primarily used on smartphones.

AdMob Mobile Network Gets 2 Billion Pings Daily

Mobile ad network AdMob receives more than 2 billion ad requests per day — more than quadrupling during the past 12 months, according to Google. The stats released Thursday suggest that more than 100 million unique Android and iOS devices requested an ad each month, nearly doubling during the past six.

Growth continues to accelerate in the U.S., but nine countries generated more than a billion monthly ad requests in December 2010, up from just one country a year ago. The strongest region in monthly ad requests during the past year came from Asia with 564%; Western Europe, 471%; and Oceania, 363%.

Google Opens AdMob to a Torrent of AdSense Ads

A year after it agreed to buy mobile ad network AdMob for $750, Google has taken its first step to integrate the unit with its own ad business. AdMob’s Android and iPhone application publishers will soon be able to fill their unsold inventory with Google AdSense ads, letting advertisers extend their mobile campaigns across AdMob’s network.

Writing on Google’s mobile advertising blog, Jason Morse, Google mobile ads product manager, described the move as “the first of many exciting things to come with the integration of AdMob and Google.”
