Infographic: IT Business Leaders’ Reading Habits

IDG Connect

This infographic is based on a sample of 727 IT and business professionals form every continent in the world. Outside of the industry news we discovered that IT and business professionals most like to read news commentary and blogs. They also highly rate infographic summaries and interviews with industry professionals. Professionals are most dissatisfied to receive email content that is more than 18-months old. More people use LinkedIn for work than any other social network, but the numbers are still low. Perhaps surprisingly, 53% never use Twitter for work.

Content Marketing Inst./IDG

The Content Marketing Institute (CMI) surveyed more than 1,400 business-to-business marketers in the United States and Canada last year.   CMI found that the software industry is strongly committed to content marketing with 99% using some form of it (social, webinars/webcasts, videos, case studies, and white papers, etc.).  On average, software marketers spend 29% of their total budget on content marketing and a majority expect that percentage to increase in 2012-13.

Understanding Social Influencers [Infographic]

Mobile Marketing Watch

Who and what are the biggest social influencers in the digital space today?

Recently, the editors at MBA in Marketing Degree Guide decided to find out and embarked on a research expedition that uncovered some interesting information.

The research began by probing who consumers trust when it comes to their purchasing decisions.

•           54 % of consumers report a greater amount of influence coming from communities of smaller size. So blogs with small but loyal followings can deliver high-percentage results in consumer influence.

•           31% of Internet purchases are influenced by blogs, ranking blogs third in influence behind only retail (56%) and brand sites (34%) in influence.

•           While bloggers and social media influencers are a premier source of influence, most digital marketers devote few resources to incorporating key influencers into their digital efforts.

IDG Enterprise’s Premium Data Services enables marketers to retarget online campaigns

Media Business

Looking to expand its reach for media buyers and command a larger share of marketers’ budgets, IDG Enterprise has introduced Premium Data Services. The software program, rolled out in June, is designed to help technology marketers more precisely target their online advertising campaigns. It combines the advertising technology of the IDG TechNetwork—which features more than 450 tech websites and blogs—with first- and third-party data to profile visitors to IDG Enterprise sites.

IDG Enterprise, whose assets include cio.com, computerworld.com, infoworld.com and itworld.com, garnered 25 million page views in July, according to Omniture. “By extending data, what we’re now able to provide is a retargeting effort where, when someone comes to our site and then leaves our site and goes somewhere that resides within the IDG TechNetwork, we’re able to align our advertisers’ messages to that individual as they’re traveling across the network,” said Michael Friedenberg, president-CEO of IDG Enterprise. “What that provides the advertiser is additional alignment and allows them a deeper understanding of who they’re interacting with and who their ads are aligning with.”

Content Marketing Inst.

If search engine traffic from Google matters to your business, then there is little chance that you haven’t heard of the recent Google Penguin update. What exactly is this? Apparently, on April 24, 2012 Google activated new ranking algorithm changes to take care of websites and blogs that indulge in:

•           Excessive link building with no regard for quality

•           Deceptive doorway pages

•           Lots of keyword stuffing

•           Publishing lots of meaningless content just to get traffic from search engines

Which, basically, means all websites that don’t comply with Google’s SEO guidelines.
